Promoting Representation with Younji Choi

Younji Choi is the founder of the Korean Culture Club at Eastlake High School, a club dedicated to celebrating and sharing Korean culture to students. Currently, Younji is striving to create an environment where anyone, regardless of background, can feel included and learn about Korean Culture.

Under her leadership, the club is striving to provide a diverse range of experiences for its members. Members of the Korean Culture Club can participate in language exchanges to improve their Korean skills and Korean-themed events to learn more about its culture. From the original goal of uniting Koreans, Younji broadened the perspective and emphasized that “it is for anyone who wants to explore Korean culture, language, and community.”

Through her hard efforts and perseverance, Younji is in the process of eradicating  the underrepresentation of Korean Students at Eastlake and creating a space where new friendships are formed. As the Korean club is fairly new, Younji plans and hopes to grow the Korean Club into something widely recognized throughout the school and make a lasting impact on the school. She hopes that her club will help future Korean Students feel more represented at Eastlake, where Koreans are a minority.
